Dear Records Requestor, Getting back to you on the remaining aspects of your records request #306, regarding CPRB cases. As noted previously, the City of Oakland does not have any existing document which provides the data you have requested. However, staff inform me that you may be able to obtain this information by reviewing each of the Board’s Annual Reports from 2000 through the most current reports. As noted previously, the reports since 2007 are available online at the Board’s website, . The City has the reports for the years 2004 to 2006 stored electronically, and these can be copied for you. However, the file sizes are too large for the City’s email system, so if you want these electronically provided the City could burn them onto a CD for you. For the years 2000 to 2003, the City’s reports are available as paper documents only, totaling 263 pages. The City of Oakland does charge for the copying of records, at the rate of 10 cents per copied page and $2.50 for a CD. Accordingly, the cost to you to receive these copies would be $28.80, plus $5.95 for postage and mailing, for a total of $34.75. Alternatively, documents may be reviewed within our offices by appointment, at no cost to you. Please contact me to let me know how you wish to proceed to get access to this information. If you opt to have copies mailed to you, please send your check made payable to the City of Oakland: City of Oakland Office of the City Administrator 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza, 3rd Floor Oakland, CA 94612 Attn: James A. Bondi Please make sure to include your mailing address, so I know where to send the materials. Having made them available, the City will consider your request closed. However, if you wish to follow up further please feel free to contact me directly. Sincerely, James A. Bondi 510-238-6654

Dear Records Requestor, You recently submitted public records request #306 to the City of Oakland, in which you made a number of points of inquiry regarding cases heard by the Oakland Citizens’ Police Review Board (CPRB). The City is prepared to make a partial response to your request now, and will require an extension of response time for some other aspects, due to the need to create and run specialized queries to find the data you are seeking. You asked for numbers of CPRB cases heard and resolved, by year since 2000, in “spreadsheet, database, or csv form.” The City does not have any existing records which conform to those exact request specifications. However, staff were able to aggregate some case numbers from its annual reports and prepared a summary sheet, which I will upload for you momentarily. It covers 2000-2012, with mid-year 2013 data not yet available. In addition, potentially responsive information may be included in each of the CPRB’s annual reports from 2007 to 2011, which are available on-line, at Additional annual reports from 2000 to 2007 are not online, but may be obtained by request. The information readily available does not provide you with data on numbers of cases “sustained.” Staff inform me that they will require additional time to create queries from their resources from which to extract this data. Accordingly, I will get back from you on or before Friday, October 11 with an updated response. Please also feel free to contact me directly at, or by telephone at 510-238-6654, regarding this or any other public records matter. Sincerely, James A. Bondi City Administrator Analyst
