Pursuant to my right under the California Public Records Act (PRA), I request copies of the following documents that I understand to be maintained by the office the Mayor of Oakland: All records concerning the Oakland Promise Initiative, including but not limited to: 1) Communications between the Mayor, and/or members of her staff, including volunteers and campaign consultants, and other persons regarding the Initiative; 2) Communications and all other documents regarding efforts to qualify the Initiative for the ballot; 3) Efforts to raise funds for the support of the Initiative, including solicitations for funds, responses to solicitations, and records of donations; 4) Records of meetings involving the Mayor and/or members of her staff, including volunteers and campaign consultants and others regarding support for the Imitative; 5) Records of all public funds, including expenditures for the salaries and other compensation of public employees, utilized to develop the Initiative and/or to build support for it. As required by the PRA I request a determination on this request no later than 10 days following your receipt of this letter. If you determine that any or all or the information qualifies for an exemption from disclosure, please note whether the exemption is discretionary, and if so, whether it is necessary in this case to exercise your discretion to withhold the information. In the event that you determine a portion of the information is exempt, please withhold that information for the time being and make the remaining information available as requested. If you determined that any or all of the information is exempt and will not be disclosed, please provide a signed notification citing the legal authorities on which you rely. If I can provide any information or clarification that will help expedite your attention to my request, please contact me at 510.839.1200. Please notify me of any duplication cost exceeding $50 before you duplicated the records so that I may decide which records I want copied. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Please confirm that your request seeks records and information pertaining to the City measure - OAKLAND CHILDREN’S INITIATIVE OF 2018 - that is being prepared for the City Council to consider placing on the November 2018 ballot. Additional time is required to answer your request. We need to search for, collect, or examine a large number of records (Government Code Section 6253(c)(2)). I anticipate that we will be able to produce responsive records in the next 2-3 weeks, probably on a rolling basis as the review is completed. Records will be posted to RecordTrac.
