Request #RT-2218
Hello! I would like to request detailed data of ShotSpotter incidents for the year 2013 (January 1 through December 31) at a more detailed level than is provided by OPD’s summary reports on its web site. (For an example report, see: ) The reports provide summaries of “incidents” (captures of possible gunshots by ShotSpotter.) Basically, I am requesting the data that is used to generate these reports at a per-incident level. For each ShotSpotter incident, I would like to request the: - Date and time (with detail to the minute if available -- for example, 1/1/13 4:32pm) - Location (latitude and longitude) - Incident type (multiple gunshots, single gunshot, or possible gunshot(s)) - Beat (for example, “25X” -- only if easily available; it seems like it would be since it is contained in the summary reports) (Note: all of this is displayed in the summary reports, and therefore is presumably in the raw data used to generate those reports. I am not requesting additional data attributes beyond what is the reports -- simply to have it on a per-incident level.) I am requesting this data in a machine-readable format (for example, Excel [XLS, XLSX], comma-separated value [CSV], or ESRI ArcGIS files.) It is my understanding that the ShotSpotter consultants and city IT staff agreed in a meeting with members of the City Council that this data could and should be released, and so I am respectfully requesting that it be made available. If there are concerns about releasing specific parts of the data that I am requesting (due to privacy and/or California law’s restrictions) or some portion of my request would create a particularly large time burden, please contact me to discuss what parts of my request can be made available most easily. Thank you very much in advance! I really appreciate your help in this matter.
