Request #RT-1523
I want access to the housing inspection data that is supposed to be publicly available, like in the city of San Francisco. I want to be able to track the number of inspections that are happening, the location, and the property owners that are most frequently involved.

Dear Records Requester: In your recent public records request #1523, you asked a variety of questions regarding “housing inspection data.” Please note that City building inspection data is not available online. However, the City of Oakland is under contract with a company called Accela to install a land use management system which will, among other features, include a public-facing portal to allow online research into Planning and Building permits, applications, etc. Accela’s product is used by many other localities nationwide. The customized development, testing and installation of the Accela product is currently underway, with completion estimated in early 2014. The City of Oakland’s current system is an antiquated program called Permit Tracking System, which can search by property address but not by property owner or violation type, for example. If you want records regarding a specific property location, please submit a request with that location information. If you want to search general PTS information, there is a public terminal available for use on a first come, first served basis in the City Building Services division, located at 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, on the second floor. Since the City has no records to provide to your request as stated, except through in-person access as described above, we will consider the request closed. James A.
