From: Matthew Davis Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2014 9:16 PM To: Matthew Davis Subject: Port of Oakland Update, Tuesday 8/19, 9:00 pm Good evening, I apologize for the lack of formal updates today, there have been many moving pa rts that are difficult to recount in total. As you can see from the Maritime Division update below, all operations are curre ntly normal at the Port of Oakland. At 3 pm today, the Zim Piraeus departed the Oakland International Container Term inal and after a brief ocean-going voyage returned to the PortsAmerica Outer Harbor (PAOH ) Terminal, where it is currently berthed and being worked by a full complement of ILWU labo r this evening. A group of approximately 50 individuals peacefully protested during th e initiation of the evening shift, but labor was able to enter the terminal without incident. W e greatly appreciate the assistance of local law enforcement, terminal management and ILWU labor who were all successful in facilitating the continued flow of international commerce for all customers at the Port of Oakland. In the coming days and weeks, Port of Oakland management and our stakeholders wi ll continue to seek out opportunities for additional dialogue on this issue. We absolutely welcome any thoughts and input that you might have. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me directly if I may be of assistan ce or provide additional insight into these recent events. At about 6:30 pm this afternoon, protestors resumed demonstrating in the Port's Maritime area (seaport) and are located near the Ports America Outer Harbor Term inal (PAOH). This protest is related to the Gaza-Israel conflict in the Middle East a nd the Zim Piraeus currently at PAOH. Law enforcement is present and has been keeping access open to PAOH. Labor has reported as scheduled with no negative impact. All terminals are operating normally. Port staff is monitoring the situation closely and will provide update s as more information becomes available or the situation changes.
