One of my staff attending this meeting (I was unable to attend), but I have not yet been briefed on what transpired at this meeting. I had already asked the Administration to provide an update on the drafting proc ess of the privacy & data retention policy at the Public Safety committee meeting on the 28th. As additional information on the drafting of the privacy policy, I've he ard from reasonably reliable sources that both the ACLU and EFF are NOT involved with the drafting and they only provided feedback (negative) at the outset in July-ish. They aren 't involved because they don't want to legitimize the DAC or help draft policies that will u ltimately fail. That's the scoop I have. The email seems to indicate otherwise in that it shows more recent contacts with EFF and the ACLU. Granted the email is nothing more than an invitation to a meeting and does n't indicate what the responses were from ACLU/EFF, if any. Further, my sources say that only OPD and the City Attorney are drafting the pri vacy policy which is pretty bad news. Again, it seems like the 28th at the Public Safety meeting would be a good time for an update with some accurate information. John On Fri, Jan 10, 2014 at 6:36 PM, John E Klein wrote: Dan. Attached is a Nov. 2013 email about the Working Group for the DAC privacy policy . It's from a public records request. It would be helpful to know more precisely which organiz ations are attending the group meetings and which are actually helping with the draft. Joh n
